This Mission Effectiveness Assessment is designed to help Executive, Programs, Advocacy, and Policy Director level staff quickly gain a collective impression of your mission related activities as part of an organization-wide planning effort. This tool can help you determine if your scope of work reflects a coherent strategy and maximizes your position and resources.
It’s best used to provoke discussions around balancing your organization’s resources and focus, and can support you to identify clear organizational priorities across all of your campaigns and programs. It’s built for nimble use or short planning timelines, especially when confronting major changes.
Once the Assessment is completed, you will have a mission effectiveness “score” for each of your key campaigns and program activities; this can illustrate what you’re currently poised to manage well or are invested in.
No score is ever an accurate presentation of a complex reality; in this tool the scores are intended to provide an opportunity for collective sense-making so you can make coherent decisions together.
Notably, this tool does not cover all of your organization’s activities or capacity, such as fundraising or operations, and is not designed to indicate your organization’s health or total scope of effort.
Take 40-60 minutes completing Step 1. Plan on spending 2 hours for Steps 2 and 3, with about 20 minutes clarifying your criteria for scores. Though the total time for using this tool may vary, it was designed for use within a 3 hour window.
