Coaching

The saying “it’s lonely at the top” is the hard truth for many leaders.  Many leaders arrive at leading others as a result of being a highly effective individual contributor who is asked to take on a larger role.  Frequently there is no leadership or management training and often very little orientation to the focus, skills, and perspectives leaders need not only to manage the work and effectiveness of the organization but the work, effectiveness, engagement, and support of the staff, Board, and key stakeholders.

TREC’s Coaching Program includes Leadership Development/Effectiveness, Resilience, and Understanding the Impact You have on Others through a 360 Feedback Survey.

Leadership Coaching
Leadership coaching begins with your goals for what you want to do and how you want to be as a leader.  The entire focus of the coaching is enhancing your vision of your leadership, expanding critical skills, and enhancing effectiveness and the quality work experience you have in your leadership.  A 360 feedback process can be included.  Coaching most often occurs in phone discussions with your coach as you explore the leadership goals, determine action plans to move ahead, gain insight into the challenges and barriers you’ll meet and strategies and tools to work with them, and take action. Conversations with your coach are strictly confidential, and typically involve 45 – 60 minute phone calls every 2 to 3 weeks, spread over a period of 3 to 6 months.

The process is tailored to fit your needs, schedule and circumstances, and is completely confidential. It is designed to meet leaders “where they are” and give the focused support that often can’t be provided through workshops and retreats.

360-Degree Feedback Survey
The 360-Degree Feedback survey gathers input from people you work with to produce a comprehensive profile of how others are experiencing your leadership in key leadership competencies areas. The report provides constructive feedback of how you work with the challenges and responsibilities that go with leading an environmental organization. The assessments, held confidential, are gathered from a 360-degree range of people you choose from among staff, your boss, co-workers, colleagues, Board, collaborators, funders, and others familiar with your leadership style. Your input is included as you complete a survey on yourself of the same questions. Data is collected via an online survey compiled in a detailed, easy-to-read report with ratings and written comments grouped by responder type. You review the report in a confidential meeting with your TREC coach.  If coaching is done only for the 360-Degree Feedback Survey you can plan on a pre-360 session, a 360 results review session, and a follow-up action planning session. More coaching can be added at any time.
