Conservation Specialist or Manager (link)

Status: Full-time, Exempt, Salaried          Starting Range: $45,000-$58,000

Schedule: Flexible                                     Location: Juneau, AK

Position Summary
The Conservation Specialist or Manager is responsible for evaluating and planning land conservation projects; developing technical analysis, plans, and proposals; supporting SEALT’s compensatory mitigation program; and collaborating with partners in conservation.

Land Conservation (60%)
Evaluate and select land conservation projects, including both fee simple acquisitions as well as conservation easements, developing detailed technical assessments of priority parcels and their conservation values.

Mitigation Program (30%)
Support the SEALT In-Lieu Fee Compensatory Mitigation Program which preserves, restores, establishes, or enhances aquatic resources (wetlands, streams, and special aquatic sites) in partnership with the USACE.

Outreach & Partnerships (10%)
Cultivate positive working relationships with landowners, conservation partners, and communities, providing high quality information and connective resources for land conservation projects.


Qualifications
This position can benefit from a wide variety of skills and experience, including:

  • Relevant degree or five years of equivalent experience in any of the following categories: biology, botany, geology, environmental science, natural history, land use planning/management, conservation, natural resources, real estate/title work, GIS/spatial analysis
  • Knowledge of conservation easements, land use restrictions, and/or land management plans
  • Strong written and verbal communication, time management, & organizational skills
  • Preferred experience: background in wetlands science, familiarity with 404 permitting and mitigation, familiarity with Southeast Alaska habitats, project management, grant writing
