Golden Sands RC&D is a rapidly growing regional 501(c)3 conservation nonprofit based out of Stevens Point, Wisconsin and serves thirteen counties. The organization provides a variety of conservation services throughout Central Wisconsin which are based on our directives: Clean Water, Healthy Forests, Abundant Wildlife, and Sustainable Agriculture. Within our service area we work with federal, state, and county agencies, conservation non-profits, local businesses, and community members to protect Wisconsin’s natural resources while growing the economy. Together we are making Central Wisconsin a better place to work and live!

The organization is looking to fill the Executive Director (E.D) position to lead our team in carrying our mission and growing the organization.  E.D. is responsible for ensuring that the organization is managed effectively to achieve its mission. The E.D.oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations and is responsible for balancing organizational, administrative, staff supervision, project management, fundraising, budget management, and public relations. The E.D. also is in charge of ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely manner and that all projects remain within budget. Grant writing, fundraising, and contract development are also critical aspects of the position which ensure that the organization is adequately funded. This position is overseen by the Golden Sands RC&D Council and is responsible for developing and completing the objectives and vision of the Council.

Pay rate: Minimum of $24.00/hr. Commensurate with experience.

Position Location:  Main office is located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Opportunity exists to work remotely for the majority of the time but some local travel to work in the office and attend partner and council meetings will be required.

Work Schedule: 25-40 hours per week. Occasional weekend and evening work.

Travel: Regular in-state travel. Travel reimbursed at the Federal mileage rate. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and provide proof of insurance.

Benefits: $2.75 adjusted pay increase, Simple IRA with 2% organizational contribution, and generous paid time off following the completion of a probationary period.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Vision & Planning

  • Provide leadership to cultivate a shared organizational vision among Council, staff, and partners
  • Seek new opportunities and research new program areas
  • Translate strategic goals into achievable objectives
  • Develop and maintain partnerships to leverage resources and expertise

Fundraising & Development

  • Ensure adequate funds are available to support the organization
  • Implement long and short-term fundraising plans
  • Identify current and potential funders
  • Research and apply for grants and develop fee-for-service contracts
  • Lead donor stewardship and recognition efforts

Fiscal and Organizational Management and Administration

  • Oversee all funding sources  (grants, contracts, sales, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance
  • Prepare and monitor organizational and project budgets
  • Manage and oversee recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and staff evaluation
  • Maintains an inclusive work environment which recruits and retains diverse talent
  • Develop, update, and implement organizational policies
  • Oversees management of organizational records and documents to be in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

Community and Public Relations

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with the community, natural resource agencies, funders, business agents, and program clients
  • Oversee the development and implementation of communication strategies
  • Inform government officials, agencies, organizations, and the general public about natural resource issues and how Golden
  • Sands RC&D may be of assistance

Board and Staff Relationships

  • Support the operation of, and assist the Council in leading and managing the Council’s committees
  • Support council member development, coordination, and recruiting

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and effective management skills
  • Masters degree in natural resource management, business, agriculture, public administration, or a related field; or a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with applying for and securing grant funding and administering projects
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Exceptional organizational skills. Possess the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple budgets and projects
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of principles of effective nonprofit management and governance
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Possess the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, customers, and partners
  • Strategic networking experience
  • Experience w/ Google and Microsoft applications, especially Excel and Google Sheets and use of formulas
  • Must be able to clear a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of successful grant writing
  • Fundraising experience
  • Prior nonprofit organization management
  • A passion for, and/or professional background in, issues related to the environment and natural resources
  • Knowledge of social media and using it for effective promotional use
  • Knowledge of funding opportunities and critical Central Wisconsin partners
