Weathering the Storm: Timely strategies for
finding solid ground, by TREC.
July,
2009
In early 2009, TREC gathered information from more
than 100 executive directors and development staff to
assess the state of environmental fundraising. This
new report - the third in a series - provides important
insights into the ways the current recession is affecting
wilderness and conservation organizations. The report
details the steps groups are taking to cope with the
downturn in the economy, it includes a detailed analysis
of fundraising strategies currently being deployed,
and it offers advice and guidance on remaining financially
resilient during these challenging times.

Salary & Benefits Survey of Western Environmental
Groups, by TREC.
December,
2008
Over the summer of 2008, TREC conducted its third salary
survey of environmental organizations throughout the
North American west that work to protect wild lands
and wildlife. Our purpose in producing this report is
to provide those working in the environmental sector
with information that they can use to gauge their salaries
and benefits policies. Our stakeholders have consistently
told us that they have used previous results to help
compare their policies to those of other similarly situated
organizations and, where needed, to adjust their compensation
packages. TREC remains the only nonprofit organization
that compiles and disseminates this important information.

Signs of Health: Positive Trends in Fundraising
Practices in Western Environmental Nonprofits,
by TREC.
October,
2007
TREC is very pleased to announce the completion of its
third survey of fundraising trends in environmental
nonprofits in the western United States and Canada.
This survey was conducted in late 2006 and early 2007
and tracked results from more than 87 different organizations
and 95 different staff positions.
“In contrast to two earlier TREC surveys, 2007 survey
results show fundraising practices have improved significantly
since 2004,” Dyan Oldenburg, TREC executive director
said. “I’m very excited and pleased to see such a positive
shift. Given the changes in the political climate, many
groups are better positioned to make a bigger, positive
impact in the next few years”.
